Call for Action: Social media accounts blocked by city departments

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - Several city of Colorado Springs social media accounts were blocking dozens of users. After answering questions from 11 News, they decided to unblock a majority of Facebook and Twitter accounts listed.
The Colorado Springs Police Department didn’t allow 72 users to see their content. The city’s fire department had 57 accounts blocked between the two platforms. Colorado Springs City Council was blocking nine accounts, including a media outlet.
These lists of blocked accounts could have potential legal problems concerning free speech.

Arizona Snowbowl pulls in strong attendance in first half of winter

A combination of help from the early season El Niño snow storms and Arizona Snowbowl’s most recent investor has generated record attendance for the first half of the ski season.
The southwest ski resort investor James Coleman has been a businessman his entire life — recently devoting $2 million to Snowbowl to expand the snowmaking, build two new chair lifts and renovate the lodges.
Big snows bring big attendance
With 122 inches of natural snowfall about halfway through the winter, Snowbowl’s attendance reached 124,000 skiers Jan. 24, which is 60 percent of the previous 2009-2010 record of over 205,000 skiers/snowboards in a season that received 321 inches of snow.

Skateboarder Dreams Big

John Wells, 21, a 2011 graduate of Cody High School, has skated at the Mentock Park skatepark since it opened in 2003 and wants to help develop more parks in Cody to give skateboarders more options. “Everything in Cody is getting polished up, and the skatepark is no different,” he added. “But it’s the skateboarders’ responsibility to develop the space around the skatepark to make it more inviting.” Read the full story here |

ASU Soccer: Moon Shines in Her First Week as a Sun Devil

Farquharson Injury Update
Cali Farquharson, one of the stars of the ASU soccer team, was taken out of the opener with injury. by Anthony Prosceno, August 28, 2014 Arizona State forward Cali Farquharson will be back on the field this weekend, head coach Kevin Boyd said. Farquharson, who injured her right foot in training a couple weeks ago, was substituted out of the team’s season opener in the 16th minute and missed ASU’s 5-2 win over Hawaii on Sunday. “I was pretty upset but there was nothing I could do except stay supportive of my team,” Farquharson said.
