Skateboarder Dreams Big
by Anthony Prosceno, July 14, 2014
A local skateboarder wants to improve the community through park development.
John Wells, 21, a 2011 graduate of Cody High School, has skated at the Mentock Park skatepark since it opened in 2003 and wants to help develop more parks in Cody to give skateboarders more options.
“Everything in Cody is getting polished up, and the skatepark is no different,” he added. “But it’s the skateboarders’ reponsibility to develop the space around the skatepark to make it more inviting.”
Last month he presented a plan to the city council for a mural to be painted on the Mentock Park restroom wall facing the skatepark. He presented his potential organization, Flip the Script, with a goal for a self-sustaining skatepark and to raise funds for future skatepark development around Cody.
“Anytime a group steps forward and wants to take care of themselves, they should be commended,” councilman Donny Anderson said.

Francik Back on Varsity Bench
by Anthony Prosceno, July 23, 2014
The most experienced volleyball coach in Wyoming is back for one more season.
Keith Francik has been named Cody High School’s interim volleyball head coach for the 2014 season.
“I feel bad that we weren’t able to fill the position and he had to do it,” CHS Activities/Athletics Director Tony Hult said. “But we’re talking about the most respected volleyball coach in the state, past or present.”
The coaching position opened in November and there were difficulties filling the position despite recruiting efforts, Francik said.
There was interest from coaches outside the school district, but they also needed a teaching job, Hult said. Candidates were unable to find jobs or turned down teaching positions.
